Efficient Transport System

Air Transportation


In western China, Sichuan Province is a major aviation and logistics hub. There are 16 general civil aviation airports in Sichuan. Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province, is the fourth largest aviation hub in China and the third city with two international airports in China. In 2021, Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport  opened 374 flights, including 131 international and regional flights and 15 international all-cargo flights. The total number of passengers handled was 40.117 million, which placed it second in China. The cargo throughput is 628,000 tons, and the number of flights is 3,009,000, making it one of the top ten busiest airports in the world. Chengdu Tianfu International Airport opened with an on-time departure rate of 90.79 percent, making it the only airport with both more than ten million passenger traffic and an on-time departure rate of more than 90 percent in China.

Railway Transportation

The total length of rail transport is 5687 kilometers in Sichuan. Chengdu International Railway Port has been selected as one of the first land-port type national logistics hubs and become one of the five China-Europe freight train centers in China. By the end of 2021, the China-Europe Freight train (Chengdu-Chongqing) had connected 69 overseas cities and run more than 18,000 trains in total. The number of trains and comprehensive evaluation indexes have led the country for five consecutive years. It is the most efficient, most stable and most competitive international railway freight direct train in China.

Highway Transportation


Sichuan's total mileage of highway is 399,600 kilometers, ranking the first in China, among which expressway mileage is 8608 kilometers, ranking the third in China, and there are 26 highway channels out of Sichuan. In 2021, highway freight volume in Sichuan reached 1.71 billion tons, and freight turnover reached 178.98 billion ton-km.

Inland Water Transportation


The navigable length of inland waterway in the province is 10,881 kilometers, ranking the first in western China and fourth in the inland waterway of China, among which 1,748 kilometers are grade 4 or above. There are 18 ports with a handling capacity of nearly 100 million tons of cargo and 2.5 million TEUs of containers. In 2021, the province carried 54 million tons of waterway cargo and 26.5 billion tons of freight transportation.
