WHY SICHUAN
Abundant Resources
Mineral Resources
Sichuan is rich in mineral resources and has a strong supply capacity of mineral resources. It is a major province in the production and processing of mineral raw materials in western China and even in whole China. There are 132 kinds of metal and non-metallic minerals such as platinum group metals, natural gas and rare earth, accounting for 70% of the total in China. There are 94 kinds of proven reserves, accounting for 60% of the national total, distributed in most areas of the province. The reserves of 8 kinds of mineral resources such as shale gas, titanium ore, vanadium ore and lithium ore rank first in China. The reserves of 5 kinds of mineral resources such as iron ore and natural asphalt rank second in China. The reserves of 6 kinds of mineral resources such as graphite (crystalline graphite) rank in the top three in China.
Clean Energy
The installed hydropower capacity of the Sichuan is more than 90 million kW, and the annual power generation is more than 370 billion kWh. The installed hydropower capacity and power generation of the province both rank first in China, and the technically developable capacity of hydropower resources is 148 million kW, ranking second in China. The proven reserves of natural gas (shale gas) are 5.18 trillion cubic meters, and the annual output is 43.2 billion cubic meters, accounting for 27.4% and 22.9% of China's total, respectively, and ranking first in the country in related indexes. The technologically exploitable wind energy resources exceed 18 million kW in Sichuan and solar energy resources reach 85 million kW.
Resources of Culture and Tourism
There are 26 world-class tourism resources and brands, three World Natural Heritage sites (Jiuzhaigou, Huanglong, and the Giant Panda habitat), one World Cultural Heritage site (Qingcheng Mountain - Dujiangyan), and one World Cultural and Natural Heritage site (Emei Mountain - Leshan Giant Buddha) in Sichuan. There are 15 national 5A scenic spots and 18 national scenic spots; 145 species of wild animals are protected by the state, ranking first in China. There are 1,387 wild pandas among them, and the forest stock is 1.897 billion cubic meters, ranking third in China. The forest coverage rate is 39.6 percent, and the grassland comprehensive vegetation coverage rate is 85.6 percent, making it an ecological barrier in the Yangtze and Yellow Rivers' upper reaches.
